    Avon Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement that crews from Southmead, Patchway, Kingswood, Hicks Gate, Bath, Yate, Temple, Bedminster and Avonmouth Fire Stations were on the scene of a fire at a property on Southmead Way, Southmead.

    It added: “Firefighters are currently tackling the fire. Please avoid the area as the road is congested. If you live nearby, please keep your windows and doors closed.”

    Fire under control

    In an updated statement, Avon Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire has been put out. The cause of the blaze was accidental.

    A statement said: “The fire is now out, and crews have scaled back. The remaining crews are dampening down the scene and checking for hotspots. Crews used multiple jets and hose reels and isolated the gas and electricity while 15 firefighters wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire. Crews worked with the Police and the Ambulance to make the scene safe. The cause of the fire is accidental.”

    Southmead Hospital ‘fully open’

    The North Bristol NHS Trust has confirmed that Southmead Hospital is “fully open”,

    A statement released at 4pm reads: ”

    The situation involving a fire near to the Southmead site remains under control. Please be assured that the hospital is fully open, however if you are driving to the site please use the main entrance off Monks Park Avenue, and allow extra time for your journey as nearby roads are affected.

    Bus services face delays

    Stagecoach West has confirmed three services face delays of over 30 minutes as a result of the fire.

    Buses are still serving Southmead Hospital, though.

    ‘Big fire’

    One witness has described the blaze as a “big fire”, although it’s not thought to be impacting the Southmead Hospital main building.

    Where exactly is the fire?

    A fire has broken out at a property on Southmead Way in Southmead, Bristol. Fire crews are at the scene tackling the blaze, with Southmead Road shut both ways between Doncaster Road and Greenway Park.

    Pictures taken at the scene show members of the public gathered near Bear & Rugged Staff as they watch fire crews extinguish the flames. While it is not yet known what building is on fire, it is near to Southmead Hospital, with thick, black smoke seen above.

    ‘No risk’ to patients or staff

    A spokesperson for North Bristol NHS Trust has confirmed firefighters are currently battling a fire close to Southmead Hospital.

    A statement reads: “A fire has broken out nearby to our Southmead site. There is no risk to the Hospital, its patients or staff. Please take care when walking in the area, due to smoke.”

    Road near Southmead Hospital closed

    Southmead Road is shut both ways between Doncaster Road and Greenway Park are closed, according to Mirror affiliate BristolLive.

    An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said on Facebook: “Crews from Southmead, Patchway, Kingswood, Hicks Gate, Bath, Yate, Temple, Bedminster and Avonmouth Fire Stations, are currently on the scene of a fire at a property on Southmead Way Southmead.
